IPAN Statement: Israel’s war on Iran condemned
The Independent and Peaceful Network (IPAN) condemns the unprovoked armed attack on the Iranian people, causing terror for millions of people in Teheran and other cities.
Just as the claim of Iraq’s ‘weapons of mass destruction’ was used in 2003 to justify the United States war on Iraq, now we hear claims that Iran is producing nuclear weapons to justify this attack on Iran and its people. Like the Iraq war ‘justification’, this claim is made without any evidence. In fact, in March 2025, the United States Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, stated that Iran is not believed to be building a nuclear weapon.
This war on Iran comes after 19 months of illegal attacks causing many thousands of deaths and injuries on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as attacks against people in Lebanon and Syria, and this with the support of the United States of America.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is proceeding with a charge of ‘plausible genocide’ against the Israeli government and warrants have been issued for the arrests of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant.
In this 80th year of the United Nations, Australia must declare its support for, and commitment to adhere to international law - international law that was developed through negotiations and collaboration of UN member states.
Australia needs to abide by the conditions of UN membership and condemn the aggressor Israel, using everything in its power to prevent Israel continuing its lethal policies which threaten to expand into world war.
The United States and the Israel Defence Force war plans are predicated on overstated concerns over Iran's nuclear capabilities. Yet Israel has built a significant nuclear weapons arsenal of their own, entirely outside the non-proliferation framework and in defiance of international law.
The best response Australia can provide to concerns over Iran’s nuclear program is to sign the Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) and promote a nuclear weapons free zone for the Middle East.
IPAN urges our government to declare that none of our resources, personnel or territorial facilities will provide material or political support to the Israeli or United States governments for these illegal, immoral wars.
IPAN calls on the Australian government to cease providing military materiel to Israel, either directly or via a third party and to close Pine Gap, which almost certainly will be providing intelligence and targeting information during the war.
